[Vwdiesel] Injectors?

I lost one belt at idle. Winter, -35, in the 89 Jetta td, an hour from
home. I started it at work, stopped at the store and let it idle while I
ran in for a few things. I noticed idle was a bit rough, with the occasional
hiccup, so I left it run to warm up and allow the heater to try to chew away
at the cold.
Hopped back in, still idling fine. I blipped the throttle, went for first,
and it stopped dead with a big clack as the piston discussed personal space
requirements with an exhaust valve. It had torn out the belt teeth on the
crank sprocket. Towed home, re-belted it just for giggles, as I knew it had
at least one toasted valve, right?.... so I thought. Started up, ran like
a watch. Go figure.... That was at 520 or so thousand km. Sold it still
running like a watch at 580. It's still running, I see it on occasion.
That was the best car ever. I will only ever use factory T-belts too from
then on.

Really sucks to have it go out on you at highway
speeds. It's never pretty.
Lost one just dropping to 35mph. Bent 1 or 2 valves. Same car, it jumped
a tooth, at 60mph,
going over the mountain pass with 3 or 4 of us in the car. Turned around,
coasted most of the
way home then Dad towed us home. Only jumped a tooth, lost power, sounded
"wrong" white
smoke...
Wasn't too long until I finally tracked my troubles down to a worn input
shaft bushing on the
injector pump. Knew the belt wasn't tracking but kept looking for
something bent and
expected that to be a roller bearing instead of a bushing so the wobble
isn't felt if you
wiggle it the wrong way!
