Just what I suggested 5 days ago... ;op.

Ah well you foreigners never listen to a Limey, unless it's Tony Blairfaced Liar, then you pay $500k, [or was it $750k] for the pleasure. As there is nothing wrong with the engine, shouldn't take much time to r & r the head.

I just spent about 5 hours spread throughout this week trying to squeeze another mm out of a rear door handle lever that wouldn't quite open the latch. It looks like a modern replacement.Today it took just 10 minutes to get one off an old door from a1985. in my shed. Completely different quality, and although corroded, opened the door straight away... Lubed it up, and especially that little screw behind the trim....

I will have to second that, safe way is the hard way, remove the head and

Replacing all the little things that need to be addressed along the way
will firm up the motor and make it a more reliable daily driver.

At this point I'd probably have to agree. If the timing belt was still
on, etc but to get to things, the injector lines are probably off, the cam's
out, pump may be as well... Disconnect the exhaust and pull some head
bolts and it's done. Not necessarily harder but at this point, probably faster!
