I use some high current disconnects on my 4x4:

Link to the supplier (Wrangler) lower down that page.

The ones I use are rated at 350 amps, but they make larger ones. Supposedly they use
connectors like this on the batteries on electric forklift trucks.

I made up 2 sets of jumper cables that plug into the socket plus an extension cable. With
2 sets of jumper cables, I can also split out the two batteries and hook them up in series
for 24 volts if need be, like for welding.

I have plugs at the front and rear of the vehicle that the jumper can plug into. I'll be
retrofitting that setup into my VW pickup once I get the battery relocated under the bed.
Neat thing with the connectors is that there is no male or female version, they are all
the same and any end of one will plug into any end of another.
