The connectors you're talking about are in fact used on forklift batteries
and chargers. The tow truck where I used to work had jumper cables that
plugged into a connector like that in the grill of the truck.
They are indeed unisex, and in that matter are like giant versions of the
Anderson Powerpole connectors.
