[Vwdiesel] Banana Rabbit-Sinking Feeling...

Today I was showing a friend the carnage in the engine. As we talked, I mentioned that I had noticed that the thing stopped on TDC, that the zero is right at the center of the hole.

But as we talked about the oddity of this, I realized that all of the pistons are somewhere in the middle of their stroke. None are anywhere near TDC!

So I'm afraid that there could be damage inside the transmission too-if the engine stopped suddenly but the car was moving, I don't know what could happen.

I suppose there is the possibility that the crank broke somewhere, though that isn't immediately evident. Failing that, I'm hoping that the clutch is only mangled instead of the insides of the transmission.

Either way, I'm not moving forward until I know the status of the trans. Which means pulling that out next, I guess.
