I paid about $3K for my truck, about $1k for my rabbit car (put a few more into it) and $14K (couple more to it) for my 04 used Golf. While I love the retro part of the rabbits and the easy to work on part of it, some of the parts can be hard to come by unless you know of used parts placed very well, they do rust out a little faster and the noise and safety isn't the same. Plus the cruise control and AC are worth it on the Golf. But I am stopping with Golf for a while. I love that car and it is my long distance car. Little harder to work on as I swear everything requires a "special" tool or new bolts each time. I can see myself maybe getting my fathers 09 when it becomes 5 years old and can't be used for my fathers job (can't be older then 5 years old). Should have 300K on it at that time. I would also get a manual diesel minivan if they every stick this new TDI into one.
