[Vwdiesel] Passat electrical woes (update/question)

Couple things would have to happen- door harness would have to fail so the
ecu couldn't "hear" the key open the door lock, after the door being locked.
Alarm horn would also have to be disconnected or failed, so the alarm is
going off, and you can't hear it after opening the door, and putting key in
ignition, trying to start.  Immobilizer only kills the ignition in this car
if the door opens before the ecu hears the key open the lock.

Try unlocking the doors from the passenger side, if the vac pump pulls the
door lock solenoids up, you should be good to go from that standpoint....
the ecu hears what it needs to hear etc.

Immobilizer box is in the driver's side above left foot tucked up along the
side of things, behind wires, quite a ways up.  Or is that in the 99 jetta?
I forget, sorry bud, been a few years since I messed with one. It's a white
box... pretty innocuous looking.

It runs with no oil pressure, blinky lights and dings to beat all hell, but
no Murphy switch...

If you can wait until I get home and go pick up that 96 Passat, you're
welcome to try the ecu from that one. It should be an exact match, but that
won't be until Monday.

  I was just about to order that ECU on ebay then it hit me while 
conversing with Val.  Is there any safety function on the '96 
Passat which would shut off power to the stop solenoid, as a 
safety feature?  Such as no oil pressure, etc.
  Anybody know?  I'd sure hate to put in a replacement ECU just 
to find out it's an input problem rather than a processing/output 
problem.
