I'd question your assumption that removing EGR might increase EGT.
The whole point of EGR is to reduce NOx formation by reducing peak
combustion temps. This is achieved by recirculating exhaust gas, which is
depleted of oxygen, slowing combustion and reducing peak temps.
Further, on a diesel the EGR is only active at light load anyway, so
probably wouldn't be a factor under high-load conditions that would stress
the exhaust valves.
Doesn't really answer your question, I know, but just some things to think
about.
