Dave Cook'ed: "If I ever get to meet the idiot who designed the belt system
on early watercooled VWs, I am going to punch him in the throat. What a
piece of s***."
And then I lauged.. Almost posted (or maybe I did) the same sentiment a
while back. In the throat! :HA]
RPM foreign auto in Stanhope NJ 973 448 9440 gets these correct and yes,
Conti belts are a must.
You might also have a failing Alt. tensioner bearing which RPM can get you
too. BTDT, but now I realize that after I've got everything as good as can
be, the only thing left is , of course, the problem, and thats the
alternator pulley itself. would be more suiting for an 11 or 12 mm belt at
this point but the compressor wont do that so I now need to find a NOS
pulley or send away for a custom pulley.
It's lasted since early spring but I got frustrated with the prick bastard
pulley even with the proper locking socket/wrench combo,, couldnt get the
pulley nut off w/o compromising something, so I left it, and [gasp] made 24
"precise" adjustments with one of my vise grips. Yep, mmhm. Belt sat/sits
way better but that trick is unacceptable for the long run, soo anyway,
heads up on that.
& personally, that bottom A/C bolt like most of the other hardware on this V
setup, get tightened more than most any other hardware. Especiallty the
bottom bracket that bolts to the weakest tab on the block,
Alright im about to start ranting, bye!
