[Vwdiesel] .85mm or 1.15mm IDI injection pump timing? The facts...

Loren's correct about the timing figures. The 107A pump was only officially 
put on vehicles around 1980. Apart from this pump, [and in truth including] 
all unremanufactured pumps should be set to 1mm as a start, and then because 
of general wear, internal spring weakening, affecting both internal 
pressures and dynamic advance rate, and  fuel changes. Overall engine 
condition also affects, as well as injector condition, and especially 
injector break pressures.
 The only way to get it right on the side of the road, is to run it and then 
tweek the pump into advance  or  retire from this starting point. 
Improements can be found by ear, touch [vibration checks through gear stick 
when accelerating], periodic fuel economy changes etc on on otherwise 
similar journeys.
Use the dial gauge to make notes of where you are and how to get back there 
when you find the motherelode was the last position.
