Gasket thickness has no relevance to turbo/na. Thickness is determined by
piston protrusion above block. This is determined by machining variance by
the building engineer.
All blocks beyond a certain age were 'turbo' compatable I believe. Engine
codes MF, RA, SF, CY all turbo, but CY could be hydraulic or mechanical
valve adjusters. Engine codes are scratched under the side water outlet of
the head...

Subject: [Vwdiesel] differentiate between turbo block and NA
does anybody have the rabbit/jetta IDI turbo block casting numbers or is
there another way to differentiate between turbo
block and NA? Are there any other differences in the cylinder head/block
besides a thicker head gasket and the piston
squirters?

john
