[Vwdiesel] TDI EGR Delete-experiences?

Ok, I've got the head off the engine.  The oil line was just a bit stuck, some extra tapping and wiggling got it out.  I was just afraid of breaking something.

Anyway, I have talked to my buddy about removing the EGR stuff on the car.  Looking at the dieselgeek.com kits here:

Since totally getting rid of the EGR will totally prevent intake clogging, and will net a little bit more power it seems like a good idea.  Also, removing the cooler will make it a lot easier to put the head back on with less junk hanging off the back.

What I would like to hear is someone's experience doing this.  Did the engine feel a bit freer?  Mileage change?  (Up or down) How did you satisfy the ECU?  Did you use something other than the diesel geek kit that would be less spendy?

I have been reading threads on TDI Club, but have found conflicting info.
