OK, I have been trying for two days to install the windshield in my 82 Jetta, new windshield and new seal. No matter what we try, we can't get the seal to "suck" the window into place as we pull out the rope in the channel (you guys that have put in windshields know what I am talking about.) Anyway I noticed that part of the problems is a couple of metal strips with teeth on them that are on the left and right sides of the opening. These strips won't let the rubber curl around the lip on the body. Were these some kind of thing put in at the factory for the install and can I take them off now to make it easier to put the new windshield into place? There must be some among you that have tackled this before!! TIA Hayden
