[Vwdiesel] lower compression?

Hi Sandy;
I always use the most notches available when doing a 1.5 or 1.6
diesel. Saves on measuring piston height. This time I want to lower the
compression more than a 3 notch will do. My machinist says he will chuck the
pistons up in a lathe and take off however much I want for less than 20
bucks a piston. I just have to figure out if what it would be judicious to
take off would lower the compression hopefully about a couple of points or
so.

How about just replacing the head gasket with a 3 notch?
I usually do that when doing a gasket job, rather than bother with the
piston height measurement. Has worked every (many) times.
