[Vwdiesel] lower compression?

Measuring and math aren't my best traits but if I get the measurements and
formulas my engineer wife will do the math for me. The engine is a 1.6 turbo
block with 1.00 over pistons. With the turbo I'm hoping for great mileage
when driven conservatively and yet a sporting power with my foot in the
pump.

I had thoughts of doing the same. From what I've read, about 19:1 should
be ideal for a diesel, maybe even 18:1. I had the amount to machine off
all figured out at the time.
I tried a 3 notch gasket on the pickup in place of a one notch (which was
still one notch value too thick according to the projection.) I didn't
seem to gain anything and oddly it seemed less snappy. Lower resistance
SHOULD improve mpg and snap until it reaches the point where it won't start

anymore.
I think max gasket CR drop was a couple tenth's of a point. Not the 3
or so full points you're looking to drop.
Let us know how it works out! I'd about given up on the idea even
though I have a spare set of 1.00, 1.5 pistons just for the purpose.
