[Vwdiesel] how to test rear window defrost lines

Here is my re-cap on my fix.  I gave up.
After 2 hours of testing and probing to find solid voltage and no voltage and low voltage, I have come to the conclusion that there is not enough metallic material left on my 1982 rear window to fix it.  After removing the tint and meticulously cleaning the glue off the glass so as not to mess up the defrost lines, it must have gotten pulled off with the tint or my razor blade...................
so, starting over and getting new grid lines from Frost Fighter for $35.
I will removal what is left and install new.

I also have the rear window to the bug project that is out of the car with rubber and trim on it, waiting for installation (SOMEDAY), I tested and it has Nothing left on it, but 41 years old, so why would it.  I will be ordering one for that as well.
I am going to call the company to see if I can buy just the grid lines, this complete kit has relays and switches included as if you do not have any defoger, not needed and it is $45.

I bought 2 of the repair kits from them and will not be opening the one so hopefully can return it for $20 or sell on e-bay.
I will let you know how I make out, I only want the lines.  I see that on the beetle back window, because it is so curved, I will have to apply each line 1 at a time and have it overlap the bus bar as the sides of the glass.
the fun never seems to end and I still have no back window in the van.  Good thing camping season is over.

I haven't tried this but if I was going to try which line was broken I would use one of these infra-red remote temperature thermometers with a laiser pointer that you can buy from Harbor Freight & Radio Shack. My guess is, after turning on the rear defroster, the line that is broaken would show a lower temperature. Another way would be to turn on the rear wintow defroster on a frosty day & note which line was not defrosting.
