Bryan,
I've had two fail on the side of the engine, fortunately for me I cot those in time.
I think that I am going to the boneyard and find the aluminum equivalents and
swap them out.

Well to no ones surprise I'm sure, I am in need of a head
gasket change. There's a steady stream of tiny bubbles in
the coolant. Sigh. I still don't understand the logic of
using glass reinforced nylon instead of the aluminum hose
flange that is on my
85 jetta diesel that I put into the
80 caddy. My parts guy says that the plastic parts fail w amazing
regularity. I love my vws but I hate it when cost-cutting
supersedes engineering. An 8 dollar part causing an eight
hundred dollar repair doesn't seem so economical to me.
