[Vwdiesel] busted windshield wipers

Hello Chris.....Several years ago the wipers on my 85 Jetta TD slowed down
and finally froze, due to excessive friction in the sleeve-bearing in which
the wiper shaft rotates. Saying it another way....If you take off the wiper
arms you have to pull each of them off of a shaft. That shaft rides in a
sleeve-bearing, which has lost all lubrication and is binding. It may even
have corroded into immobility.
I dribbled some rust blaster around each shaft, tapped it gently a few
times, wobbled the shaft about, and let it sit for a day.
When I started the car and tried the wipers again, they worked....not as
fast as new, but they did sweep back and forth.
I dribbled some real sewing machine oil into the same locations and this
speeded them up.
I guess they would respond even better to a longer-lasting lubricant, if I
can find one.
Perhaps your wipers are suffering the same condition and will respond to
the same protocols.
Have a good holiday. Doyt
