[Vwdiesel] High pitched squeal when driving 020 tranny in 5th gear

They're usually just noisy, maybe a bit rattly or growly but never  heard 
one squeak.  Did you try going back into 5th a couple times to see if  it 
repeated?  Changes in load, by shifting gears can certainly affect  slipping 
belts.  Other possibilities could be the clutch (load and slippage  increase 
in the taller gears but they don't tend to squeak either) or maybe a CV  boot 
rubbing itself or something.  
  Tight bushings will tend to squeak but most of the tranny is  bearings.
