[Vwdiesel] 10 Barl Pressure Gage

Well, check the bar rating on the sending unit. For YEARS I was concerned with my 1.9NA motor making too much pressure at startup, I what I thought was too much anyway, would make 130psi on startup and when hot would run at 60psi, still, too much, most all 1.6 and 1.9 VW diesel run around 25 to 35 psi when hot on 15w-40 oils.
So, after changing out the oil pump with a new one thinking the pressure relief ball valve in the oil tube pickep was bad because I was using the original Vanagon oil pickup tube from my 1982 1.6na motor, that should have done the trick. Well, no change. That was not it.
Then someone suggested to be sure the sending unit bar pressure matched your gauge, well "Of course it does" I could never make that mistake.
sure enough, that was it.
My 2 post VDO sending unit (sender for gauge and idiot light) was stamped 5 bar and my gauge was 0-150PSI so I needed a 10 bar sender or a 0-80 PSI gauge. I swapped to a 0-80 PSI gau and all is fine now. 65 to 70 bar when cold and 28 psi when hot running down the road.
It was the wrong gauge for the sending unit.
I can't tell you how many years that plagued me. argh.

I have a diesel caddy, and my oil pressure show 5bars on start up and then pegs out at 10bars within 1 minute.
what PSI gauge should I get for it, and do these readings seem normal.
I am running regular oil for a 1981 caddy

I bought a new Rabbit diesel back in 1979 & later installed a 100 psi oil pressure gage. Ran Amsoil 10W40 full synthetic. The 100 psi gage always pegged on start up. Replaced gage with a 200 psi gage & it also would peg when the engine would rev a bit while cold but when once warmed up would operate under 100 psi as I recall. I also recall its idle pressure around 30 psi when warm. The 1981 Dasher diesel has a 100 psi gage which also pegs at 100 psi on start up, cold engine. On my 1982 Quantum TD, start up, cold engine is around 80 psi as I recall. When I get around to it, I think I will put the 200 psi gage in the Dasher & the Dasher's 100 psi gage in the Quantum. I wonder if the psi difference is due to oil pressure being supplied to the turbo in the Quantum which the Dasher doesn't have?
