  Don't feel too bad.  When I was selling my '80 Subaru, I had a  very 
interested buyer but he didn't like a kind of dry sound from the tranny  while 
idling.  I checked and sure enough, nothing on the dipstick.   Pumped in 
about a pint and all was quiet, including the negotiation table.   :-P  Not low 
enough to hurt anything but not full enough to make him  happy.
