My guess , if you were able to install a VW diesel engine is an air-cooled beetle, you would have to extend the rear bumper & fabricate a new rear hood or trunk lid. For the front hood, you could use one of the aftermarket hoods that makes a beetle look like a 1940 Ford. A year or so ago, there was on eBay an air-cooled beetle that was converted to a two cylinder diesel. They, as I recall, didn't say what the MPG was but apparently top speed was 50 MPH. I would think that a 4 cylinder VW diesel engine would make the air-cooled VW more tail heavy & thus, more oversteer. Has anyone installed a diesel VW engine in an air-cooled beetle? If so, lets see some pictures & info on how it worked out.
