So if you think USA products are sub-standard and Europeans are better than
USA, it must be scary for you to learn that the Chinese are advancing there
quality and engineering very quickly; in fact Cessna is currently producing
their latest aircraft, the Skycatcher, completely in China.

I read his whole post and didn't catch a WORD about USA made being
anything. Heck, show me a US made part for a VW other than maybe a
seal or gasket maybe... :-D I took it that he was comparing European
made parts to stuff made across the Pacific (I'd have to say most Japanese
stuff is pretty good nowadays).

btw, I've been in the industry for 30 yrs and I don't think VW are any
thing
exceptional in the engineering respect; especially given the problems I've
had with my '04 Jetta with the PD (BEW) engine that failed with the classic
camshaft/lifter failure at 118k miles even with stellar maintenance. I have
two late model Jettas, but will not buy another.

I've wondered if much of the cam problems is from incorrect oil. Just as
I
figure a lot of the 5.7 GM problems were attributable to incorrect oil and
change
intervals, water in fuel, not changing filters, one bad battery, improperly
 working
lower hose coolant heaters and such. Not ALL the problems but several
I've
heard of...
