James, that is an eye opener, failure in just about 40 hours of use. how about your time to do the work, that is very sad. From dealer as well, are they aware of these issues. There must be other options for replacement parts.

Interesting discussion. I'm harvesting at present. Case-IH (owned by
Fiat, is currently in the process of changing how things are done, where
parts come from, etc.... My 2388 case-IH combine has many many bearings.
I just changed two, on a straw spreader shaft. There are a total of 6
bearings present on 3 shafts, 2 were kaput before we started. I changed
them for new ones from the dealer. They failed within 40 hours. I examined
them, hmm, made in China. The original bearings were Fafnir. 3 of them are
original to the combine, 2001 model year, one I changed 2 years ago for an
OEM. Funny part is case keeps advertising how I should use OEM stuff to
maximize my uptime. Har.

Saying that all Chinese made things are bad quality just isn't fair to

Life's not fair.
Nothing says we HAVE to be fair.
Opinions are based on experience, not fairness.
I get tired of all the PC stuff that's been so pushed on us all
that we tend to think doing otherwise is "unfair." :-)
Don't think he said ALL Chinese stuff is poor quality but do
you remember all the lead in children's toys not too long ago?
The plastic laminate material that was put in dog food to bring
up the protein percentage? Never mind the stuff is poisonous.
How about LCD monitors/TV's that power up, shut down, and
repeat? Bad capacitors, mostly made in China.
They have no government controls, regulations, incentive, to
put out a quality product, only a product good enough to get by
and last longer than an American's memory. ;-)
My nephew was recently visiting there for work. He described
it as "pure capitalism" but with no regulations, religion or morals
mixed in. Good for proliferation of service/wealth, etc but easy to
be taken advantage of. One experience:
They were looking for a difficult to find address and stopped to ask
for help. This woman said she knew where they wanted to go. So
she hopped in, gave directions down a few streets then said to stop.
She got out of the car and said thank you. Befuddled, they asked
where their address was. She responded that she didn't have a clue
but thanks for the ride to the store!
