Good one James.

Brian, I am betting the vanes are stuck as well or one of them at least.  let us know, that should do the trick.

That's fairly common Brian.  Buddy at diesel shop will spin them up for me
on the test bench, and we found that on an old sedentary pump, mostly the
problem is no internal pressure- the vanes in the rotary pump stick, and
don't bring up the case pressure until they run for a while.  Good snort of
a good system cleaner (stanadyne, diesel purge, etc...) will do wonders.
Spinning them up to full rpm on the test bench does the same thing-
centrifugal force gets the vanes moving again.

Progress at hand. Today we put a thumper pump between the fuel filter and
the injector pump. The engine started and ran but the idle was very fast. We
removed the thumper and the engine starts and stays running but is still
very fast at idle. Tomorrow I will put the intake and return lines into a
can of Diesel Purge, run that through the pump and hope for the best. I
believe it is as I suspected a gunked up injector pump from setting for a
long unknown period with old fuel in it. I hope it clears up since I don't
have a spare turbo injection pump.

Hi Folks;
We just got my 1.6 turbo engine installed in my 90 Fox 2 door wagon. We had
pulled the head and cleaned things up but otherwise it as I bought it at an
auction at Enamclaw WA this spring. The owner had died so I have no idea how
long the engine set since it was pulled with all accessarys from a car. We
fired the engine yesterday and after the usual bleeding and fussing it
starts readily. The problem is that it starts runs smooth and dies soon
thereafter( Very soon). It doesn't respond to throttle movement. It was late
when we did it so we will try again today. Anyone have any ideas?
