[Vwdiesel] MkII Jetta, buzzing lights

Folks,
I've been driving my 85 Jetta NA diesel for almost two years with two very
annoying oil pressure and temp gauge buzzers going off at seemingly random
times. I keep the oil changed regularly (15w-40 rotella) and recently
replaced the oil pump. Last year I replaced both the oil pressure senders
as well, with no change. I have just disconnected the wires at times, and
the buzzing continues. Typically, when it goes off I can tap the horn, or
the top of the dash and it will stop the buzzer. The temp gauge does not
function at all, but the light occasionally lights up.
I would like to fix this problem, hopefully at the least cost, but still
regain the safety factor of working oil pressure and water temp warnings.
Looking into adding VDO gauges it looks like I would be spending around
$200 to add oil pressure, water temp, and voltage.
I believe this is a fairly common issue, and I'm not sure if there is a way
to fix/replace the cluster gauges, if they are the issue. I'm wondering if
there is a ground short somewhere between the dash and the sensors, but am
not entirely sure how to determine that. Any thoughts/help is appreciated.
