A pointed air gun will remove shims easily. I have no idea how much the tool
costs since mine was given to me but it is just a simple forged rod. I'm
sure it would cost way less to buy one and do one's own valves rather than
have a shop do it one time. I assume you have checked the valve clearance or
have some other reason for knowing that you have a valve or valves out of
adjustment. One great thing about VW solid lifters with shims is that once
set they rarely need adjustment. Actually the thing that costs a little if
one wants to be prepared is a box of replacement shims of different
thickness.

Subject: [Vwdiesel] valve adjustment tools
Folks,
I need to adjust the valves on my 1985 Jetta diesel, are there any
substitute, or easy to find tools for the valve compression and removing the
pucks?
thanks
