Hi Adam;
	A VW 1.6 N/A diesel loves the tall VW Fox 4spd tranny. It took my 81
Dasher sedan from a town car to a highway traveler. If you don't want to
spin the guts out of the low RPM diesel you need the tall tranny. I
installed a 1987 VW Fox 4 spd tranny in the 81 Dasher in place of the short
tranny and about 3 years ago I made a 8800 mile trip to the east coast and
got an average mpg of 49.5. You can't do much better than that.

I have a fox wagon too ive been dreaming of making diesel..i have access to
a 1.6 na but feel it d be worth holding out for the turbo.....is there a
good source of info or forum where yall have been researching.....especially
about transmission options and a good source to find them.......or maybe
just go with what i have....a four speed manual and the 1.6 na....would that
be too high a gearing for the low rpm diesel thanks again this is a good
thread so far
