That is how I have it. More depends on the length of road trips, the size of both parents in the front seat and who does the driving and the size of the car seat. There is smaller car seats out there with a little more searching online. Also helps if you don't use the car seat base to teather them in but rather use the seatbelt as it sits lower and the front seat can be reclined backwards more. And helps a little if the front seat isn't in the lowest possition. Heck, my 50 lb dog even gets to fit in the back between the two. My rabbit was able to do 5 within town comfortably with my wife between the two back seats. Even had to do one in the hatch to get 6 getting everyone back from the hotel swiming a few blocks. Now it they would only make a manual drive TDI mini van I would love that. I would even take a DSG tranny in there if it had a diesel but shy of custom making it I think I will stick with my Golf a few more years.

Just one for now, but the problem isn't the kid so much as the car seat. The rear-facing seat just barely fits in the center position, and that's with me sitting straighter than I'd like. The only way to get a second kid back there would be with the older kid in a forward-facing seat, and that would necessitate moving the rear-facing seat to the passenger side and moving the passenger seat so far forward as to render it useless.

A lot depends on where you are located but there is one in southern WI that a friend is looking to buy. He is going to offer $4500 and the guy said he would take between $0-$6000. Close to same miles and it is a 99.5 GL Golf two door. I have also seen some 100K mile ones selling for $10000.
How many kids? I know I could do up to 3. Just have to add rear cargo/top cargo areas which is cheaper then another vehicle/lost mpg.
