[Vwdiesel] TDI starter

I've been noticing the starter on the '00 TDI is starting to roll over kind of slowly sometimes, particularly on cool mornings.  I'm going to go out and check the connections, etc, but I'm a little worried the starter may be getting weak after 300K.  It's always started, but I also am planning to drive North over Christmas to visit winter.  Not so much available here in Texas.  Probably will also go to Kansas in January.  I'm told it's nice that time of year....  

I've also been getting some gear tooth drag from the Bendix, so I'm thinking maybe just the selenoid in general might be getting weak, but I thought I'd check the collective wisdom.  I'm not usually the first one to have a particular part break.....
