[Vwdiesel] Vw alt wired into JD

Be careful with giving the thing straight battery power without the
bulb in there. It can be hard on the alternator to get that
uncontrolled jolt that happens when it starts charging with that much
current going through the field.

I also think that you haven't gotten it spinning fast enough yet. You
could also use a brighter bulb, which would draw more current and
should have it self-exciting at a lower RPM. I just wouldn't suggest
doing it without any resistance in the wire. You might get away with
it a number of times, but it's putting a lot of extra wear and tear on
the internals of the alternator that you can do without.
