The A2 Jetta's are known to have issues with the switch in dash.
When I first got my 92 Jetta, it had not been used in a few years.  There were times I would turn the lights off and the parking lights would stay on for 3-5 seconds then go off.
with use, this issue went away.
 
I have an extra NEW A2 headlight switch I can sell you if you like.
I do not think I will be needing it.

I had the same problem with my (now gone) 85 Jetta. I pulled the switch out and was able to reset something inside like some plastic hanging up the contacts. I replaced the switch to assure reliability.

Folks,



I turned my car on this evening and the headlights would not come on.  When

I hold the brights switch in the brights will come on, but only while I

hold the lever in.  I had to do this the whole ride home.  I tried toggling

the switches to no avail.  I checked the headlight fuses when I got home

and they were in fine shape.  I checked the wires into the back of the

light switch and they were tight.  Is this a switch issue?  Is there a

simple fix?
