I don't know anyone in Winston Salem or N Carolina for that matter. But I do have a suggestion that might work although I have never used it. The Car Talk on PBS maintains a list of approved car mechanics thru out the USA, & probably Canada too. I would Google their website, then look for their list of approved mechanics, then contact them over the phone to see if they are familiar with VW diesels, & if they are, pay them to check over the car you want to buy. Let us know if this works out since it might save an expensive trip, & may help others who want to buy a car on eBay, Craig's List, or ? If the seller doesn't want to take the car for inspection, this may tell you something.
