I hope this correct, that we will get a diesel option with Honda, preferably the Fit as I prefer a hatchback, stationwagon, or mini-van to a 4 door sedan. I have read there is to be a diesel option in the 2013 model year for the Chevy Cruz. To my knowledge, any new American car exported to Europe offers a diesel option including Chrysler, Jeep, Cadillac. I wouldn't touch a VW TDI with an automatic transmission nor any other 6 speed manual automatic transmission with a 10 foot pole except possibly in a Hyundai or KIA which offers a 10 year/100,000 mile warranty on the drivetrain. I saw a cut-a-way of that 6 speed man-u-matic transmission at a VW exhibit the LA Auto show a few years ago & doubt any dealership or independent automatic transmission shop could repair it, just drop in a new or factory rebuilt exchange transmission.at over $4,000 plus labor. I hope the Cruz diesel sells like hotcakes which will force Ford to offer a diesel option for their Fiesta & Focus in the American market, as they do for Europe. Somehow, I just don't trust VW for reliability & the only reason I would consider a VW is due to the diesel option. Toyota, to my knowledge, offers a 10 year/150,000 mile warranty in Calif. on all hybrid related parts of the Prius. I am afraid we will see $5 a gallon gas & diesel in Calif. this summer & even higher prices in a few years.
