Can you manually open the trunk by turning the key and then lifting the handle?

Tad,
I would bet that u r right, I can get into the trunk by lowering the
rear seat backs. Not my idea of a fun day but doable.

If I recall this is often just a matter of the latch needing lube.
Of course how you're supposed to get it open to lube it, I'm not sure. :)

Ok, I have a problem w my trunk lock on my new to me
03 Jetta. When I press the key fob I can hear the
solenoid making noise but I can't open the trunk. What
am I missing? This non operation is my biggest fear
w the door locks in an emergency and this is not giving
me much confidence in the reliability of these systems.
Any suggestions?
Diesel content: Andrews pump arrived the afternoon as
scheduled, I love when people do what the say they are
going to do. Thanks Andrew.
