[Vwdiesel] trunk lock (off topic) & sloppy shifting all of the sudden in A2 Jetta

Try the key. You may need to take some things apart to see what is happening. Don't know what the Jetta sedan looks like to get to the linkage but the Golf is about 10 minues and 2 screws to open things up. May need to take things apart, fold the seats down and see what happens when you press the button. And I am pretty sure VW has both on the doors and the trucks the key directly on the latching parts so there is very little that can fail using the keys vs the actuator. 
 
Rogers shifter parts are the best out there and a fair price. Have them on both my rabbits and so does my brother. Now if I could find an OEM shifter ball part vs the new (crap) part installed it would make getting and holding in reverse with the 5 spd much nicer-still looking if anyone has one-I don't and there isn't salvage yards that keep those parts.
