I drove the van into my garage 2 weeks back after returning from the camping trip, motor is not locked up.
motor runs fine.
engine turns just fine but I will try again this evening to turn the motor by hand to be sure and try the starter one more time before removing it.

Sounds like a locked-up engine. (timing belt issue)
Try turning the engine BACKWARDS a bit with a wrench, if it will move
backwards but not forward, your belt is slipped / stripped, or broken.
If you are REALLY lucky, it happened on a start attempt, and may not have
trashed the head.
If so, give appropriate thanks, replace the belt, time it, and drive on.
It never was the starter.
