Other than the 65 bucks all is gained as a good preventitive maintenance of the cables will make all the electrics last and work longer.

Starter update.
starter is toast. I cleaned grounds from trans nose to body and I had already
cleaned the main cable from neg. on battery to transmission bolt.
I also ran a seperate jumper cable clamp from neg. terminal to engine as a
second ground, same thing, starter click, big Spark, it is no good.

so, I know my problem now. I will get another one and take this one back to
complain and see what I can get back if anything.

thanks all. this was a good lesson as always.
I hope others got something out of it as well.

Bryan,
One thing I forgot to mention is that buying and trying a new
starter would help u localize the problem. If the new starter
worked like it's supposed to, then ur original starter would be
toast and the repair shop would owe u $65 in my mind. If on the
other hand the new starter had identical symptoms u would know to
look elsewhere and u could return the starter for a refund.
