Yes, it is possible.  I have had it done several times on various engines
and in fact have it done whenever boring and fitting new pistons.  The
piston pin is most often offset towards the crank several thousandths in
order to accommodate it and if not done, I have seen the situation where
the pistons no longer protrude far enough to be within spec for a 1 notch
gasket.  I do not know what the limit would be and imagine that question
would be better directed to the machinist doing the work.
