Re: Fuel foam causing inaccurate mileage readings.
I always just put the nozzle on the very first click (the slowest fill), let it stop, then squeeze the handle 2-3 times more. I figure if I am at least doing it consistently, then my mileage figures will be close.
I did also start using an app called Fuel Log . At each fill up, I input the car's mileage, fuel amount and cost, etc and it figures the average MPG over time. One can also input other costs associated with owning the auto, such as insurance or repairs and see the actual cost per mile driven.
I think the MPG figure over time would be pretty accurate, whether or not it was filled exactly the same each time. Over time, it would start to average out. The app does allow for a partial fill up, which I guess means it takes that into account the next time you fill.
Of course, your odometer has to work!
But it is pretty handy for any smart phone users.

Subject: Re: [Vwdiesel] Fuel Flow Guage
A mpg computer has been on my list of things to do for quite a while. Somewhere I thought I had a couple of flow sensors I had stashed away to build one but now can't seem to find them.
GEMs makes some suitable ones that puts out a specific number of pulses per gallon.
I found a panel mounted up/down counter on eBay for $20
I'm thinking you could take 2 sensors and connect one sensor to monitor flow on the input side of the ip connect it to the plus side of the counter and the second sensor on the minus side of the counter to the return side of the ip
Then all you'd have to do is take the results from the counter divide by whatever the number of pulses equals a gallon and divide that by the number of miles driven for your mpg.
Alot of work, but I haven't been able to fill my tank without it foaming up since they've started selling low sulfur diesel.
So I'm not sure how accurate my mileage calculations are. This method should work accurately if your odometer is right.
A more complete setup would use a small processor to do it all for you. Compucruises and the like used Z80 processors. And programming those look like a PITA. There are a lot more friendly microprocessors today.
And of course yesterday I noticed my odometer fix broke yesterday and now I've got no odometer, lol
Anyway count me in if anyone wants to share information and create one of our own
