Porsche also created a hybrid while competing for the Tiger contract
against Henschel.
The Tiger tank porsche designed was powered by two Maybach gas engines
driving generators which powered electric motors driving the front
sprockets. Porsche built quite a few of them but lost the Tiger contract
due to issues.
The Porsche Tiger bodies went on to become the Ferdinand and Elefant Heavy
Tank Destroyers, becoming one of the most sucessful tank destroyers of the
war with a 10:1 kill ratio
