Mine did the same thing when it failed. It started getting really grabby, then one day something popped. It still worked, but only just. I had the clutch replaced the following week. 

What had happened is the throw out bearing had snapped in half. The DMF was also twisted around a bunch. It was all on its way out. 

I replaced it with a DMF from the '99 cars, as it is a lot more durable than the  '00 and up cars.
