The two inch gives the most choices of ball mounts and winch mounts. I had a pre-fab hitch where my brother used some rectangle tubing with a premade reciever welded on that for the jettas. Are you going with the flip up licence plate or how are you mounting it all up? As far as the 4X4- a two inch lift, with VR6 front springs and wagon rear springs and larger tires nets you 4 inches of lift and add a belly pan and you are safer yet. Disconnect your front sway bar and you can articulate over things better and have a set of spike-spider tire chains ready and you won't get stuck easily. I made some first tracks after the snow started to melt in the mountains. The rabbit was better though as it was narrower and could go on 4-wheeler paths. I had to get out once in 1st gear and push forward so both front wheels could contact to keep moving and then hop back in as it was rocking on two wheels. Fun stuff.
