Shockingly I don't think I've ever been stranded. Close instances...
1985 Jetta TD: Lost the alt belt on Snoqualimie Pass. Made it home by using moonlight for headlights.
Tried to fashion a belt out of a bungee cord. Worked for a couple minutes. Did pick up a jumper cable
recharge for a bit then when almost home, called my brother in law to jump some more.
1995 Caravan: Had a flat tire about an hour further out, in the minivan. Truck stop squeaked us in
to fix the flat.
1985 Quattro. Had a blow out just outside the off ramp to Baker City OR. Wife walked in for a breaker
bar and socket while I tried limping in with the kids. Lug bolts were so tight that the included tool
couldn't do it.
1980 Dasher TD, woke up to no heat while wife was driving, -30F out and basically no coolant, Middle
of Nowhere UT. Filled it up and it was just fine the rest of the trip!
Friend with a 1985 Subaru Turbo Wagon lost a radiator in Glacier MT, a transmission somewhere else
and the rings stuck near Seattle. His wife refused to go on a trip again. He insisted it HAD to be ok
since every major part had been replaced by then!
Oddly everything turns out fine on trips and breaks locally.
CV joint went on the pickup but just coasted across the intersection and called Dad.
