[Vwdiesel] Saga of the principle of unintended consequences OR?.

My starter's been making a squealing noise for a year or two now. I keep getting the "you'll ruin your ring gear" warnings but it seems to simply be the sprag/bendix squealing as it winds down with no load on it. Keep the key engaged and thusly the starter drive engaged and no noise. That used to warm it up and keep it quiet for a few days, not anymore. Lot of money to fix a noise that happens once each time you drive the car.
From my history on the older TDI's, your antenna will fail next. Should've already! ;-D

Travis, how wide are those terminals? I did a little looking and found some .250 but nothing larger without knowing what size to look for. Female, push-on terminals that size should be out there if one just knows where to look. I suppose gassers of that age should have the same plug. :-) Alts off an 81 are 45A to 60A depending on application. I think you had to have A/C to get to the 60's and I think the 45 was scarce too. Don't think 90's came on them until A2 bodies. I'd have to do some looking to be sure.

Oh please don't jinx me with talk about my clutch!! My starter has started
aking that funny grinding noise (solenoid not retracting) again, so maybe that
ill be next. Just trying to keep things together until I get the GTD drivable.

My vote is your clutch if you haven't replaced it yet will go next since you
re asking. My cruise on the first glow plug recall had issues as well. Second
ne cured all issues. I have a scangaugeII so I can see the actual temps. I
on't trust the dash gauge after seeing the actual temps.

Question from me-I can't remember-what is the amps on an alternator from the
1 year? Mine is the style with the "W" terminal on it that I run the tach's off
f. I am asking so I know how many things I can or can't put on my JD Cozy cab
hat I was able to mount my spare alt on. Might as well use it since I have it.
still am looking for the plug for it though if someone has one. Otherwise I
ill have to cut the only off my rabbit and use plugs inline to connect back in
he spring since the rabbits are summer only in WI where the salt flies.
