[Vwdiesel] Turbo

Hi Bryan;

If anything EGT'S went down with the added turbo boost if I
am at the same speed. The EGT is around 800F at 75mph on the flats. I was
somewhat over fueled when I finally made the waste-gate adjustment and I had
to turn down the fuel a little. I had been trying every adjustment I could
think of before I put in the boost gauge and found out my problem was having
only 5lbs of boost not somewhere around 10. Last evening I hooked up my
relatively lightweight box trailer and climbed some local hills with pretty
steep grades and was able to do so without excessive EGT'S.

Good news Brian, did EGT's go up any or change any with the boost
adjustment?

Thanks for all the tips folks.
When I installed the 1.6 TD in my 1990 Fox I put in a Isspro
pyrometer. An essential gauge on a diesel in my estimation to keep the
beastie alive. I still wasn't able to get the thing tuned well through a
myriad amount of adjustments. I finally decided to get a boost gauge. When I
started to look for one they seemed too expensive. I finally went to my
local big diesel truck dismantler and found a direct reading boost gauge.
One plastic line from the intake manifold to the gauge. It cost me 30 bucks.
I found I only had 5 lbs of boost. According to the Sages on this list I
should be looking at around 10 lbs. No wonder things weren't quite right.
Today I adjusted the waste gate on my KKK and I now have 10 lbs of boost. A
few more fueling adjustments and I should be up to full power.

Hi Loren and all listers

I just put a boost gauge on my Turbo Fox diesel with its
stock 1.6 VW turbo diesel. It pulls about 5 lbs. Is this normal? Is the
stock turbo adjustable? I do have a bigger turbo from an Audi 5000 gas rig.
