Silly Wabbit, the bleeder screw would end up on the bottom rather than the top, so that the air won't come out. Can't say I've never done as bad but just can't think of good examples right off. Forgetting the T-O bearing return springs on the tractor clutch, until after the two halves were bolted up, ranks reasonably close. Put a motorcycle twin together when I found the wrist pin clips once, ONLY once!

Congrats on getting it figured out!
Just so I understand - the only relevant difference between driver and
assenger side caliper is what, the position of the bleed screw? Or how is
t unbleedable when reversed?
