Dave,
That is what happened to mine, I was pulling out and forgot to reset it so I
did while I was moving and that is when it stopped working.

I don't think it is too hard to remove and fix the odometer. I did it at a
hotel one morning in a Cabriolet I had. The MKII Jetta may be set up a
little different, but I think the cluster/dash setup is actually pretty
similar to the Cabriolet. The worst part is unhooking the speedo cable,
with getting your hand back there. I don't know why I never tried this
before, but you could likely unscrew the cable from the transmission and
pull it in towards the car some to get extra room.
Fixing the odometer is usually as simple as a well-placed drop of super glue
once it is out and apart. Mine broke when I pushed the mileage reset while
driving out of a gas station.

>From what I have read it is a major pain to remove the instrument cluster on
a MKII Jetta. Is this correct? My odometer stopped working at 274313
miles. I would like to get it working but don't have much time on my hands
since product season is getting close and I have a ton of things I need to
do before I get super busy with produce.
Thanks,
Nick
