[Vwdiesel] front suspension discusion

If you can get the whole thing with good rubber bushings already assembled,
go for it. But. If they are that cheap, I tend to wonder why, and the
pessimist in me just presses in bushings I know are good. I know not, nor
have heard that there are anything wrong with the cheap control arms that
are already assembled, but TANSTAAFL. They are usually cheap for a reason,
and I have never paid too little for anything that didn't demonstrate the
reason at some point, usually sooner than later.... But, I do my own work,
have a reasonably well equipped shop, the big labor is the R&R, not the
bushing presser-inner step, but having something other than a swing press
(hammer) is nearly a must. A smallish arbor press is all that is needed, can
substitute a fairly robust bench vice and some pieces of pipe for arbors.
I can't remember of the 90 passat if there are blind nuts in behind body
metal holding bushing bolts.. If there are, careful with those. They are
real joy to repair if you turn the blind nut off.

great timing, i am currently on my mechanics wait list for control arm
bushings and shock/strut top bearing.i have a 90 passat. what i hear most
saying or leaning towards is the replacement of the control arm in total
with newbushings, correct or is there some condition were one might press in
new bushings. it looks like I will be doing the work in one of his bays with
help if needed as he is so backed up larger client work.
