[Vwdiesel] 04 Golf Brakes

Looks like the Golf needs more money. So far it has been summer tires, winter tires, wiring issues (at $500 in parts) and clutch. So-might as well through brakes in as well for driving the thing around 15K this year. Expensive per mile this year.

So to the brakes. Two questions. One: the light in the cab came on saying brakes are due. It is a two wire system at the drivers front inside pad that once broken the light comes on. It has been flirting on and off the last few drives. Took the tire off and I can see that it is basically hitting the wire (roter to wire). But there is a fair amount of pad left-How many miles would a person guess is left on the pad. I don't drive a lot of miles at the moment and think I can wait just fine till January-when I will have a little more money (just had my 3rd kid 3 weeks ago-that also took money).

Second question. I don't want to do brakes again for a long time. I tow a lot with this car and it has 156K miles on the first brakes. So I am planning on getting some really good parts likely through idparts.com. Are drilled rotors worth it for stopping since I do tow a lot?
